Priest of the Diocese of San José in California, native of Mendoza, Argentina, was ordained to the priesthood in 1993. He served as a missionary in Ukraine, 1993-2001, and Parochial Vicar in the Diocese of San José from 2001-2007.In 2007, he was sent to Rome, where he obtained Licentiate (2009) and Doctoral (2012) degrees in Biblical Theology, from the Pontifical Gregorian University. His doctoral dissertation was entitled, "Salvation History and Violence. Meaning and Function of a Motive in Matthew's Theology".
From 2012, Father Ovando served as a Pastor and professor of the New Testament in the Institute Leadership Ministry in the Diocese of San José until 2024.
