At St. John’s Seminary, we are dedicated to guiding those with a religious calling so they can be better leaders, churchgoers, and members of the community.
As part of our dedication, at times we share blog articles touching upon various aspects of religious life, and for this post we thought we would look at a variety of church and ministry statistics and facts about the modern-day church.
85% of ministers feel that the primary mission of the church is to connect with those who are lost, though surprisingly only 42% of practicing Christians see this as the church’s mission.
90% of ministers feel that they have been called to the church, and that they are where God has called them to minister to the People of God.
Church attendees are twice as likely as the average American to be 65 years old or older, and since 2008 senior church attendance has risen by 5%
39% of Millennials state that they attend church weekly, a number that has raised from 21% in 2019
40% of Millennials are currently religiously unaffiliated
It’s no secret that parishes lost attendance during COVID-19, but on average they are at approximately 85% of their attendance levels pre-pandemic
15% of Americans state that while they do not normally attend Mass, they did watch Mass online during the pandemic, while 45% of Americans in total watched Mass during the pandemic
