St. Serra Speaker Series English
Bishop Jorge Rodriguez detailed four challenges to Latinos in America today, noting both the threat to their cultural identity and the challenge to grow in understanding of the culture and society in which they live. The four challenges he discussed were:
Hispanic identity: How can a community that is identified as “alien” overcome the boundaries that keep it from being a productive and contributing part of the American society?
Family: How can Latinos share their dedication to family in a way that does not include ‘machismo’ and other negative aspects of the culture?
Faith: What can the devotional faith of Hispanic culture add to the church in America without devolving into superstition?
Morality: How can the Latino communal understanding of good and evil help form the American Society?
