80th Anniversary Gala Committee Announces Our Honorees!

April 04, 2019

This year, our Annual Gala – set for Saturday, September 21 – will launch celebrations for St. John’s Seminary’s 80th year of service to our Catholic community.  And once again, we have wonderful distinguished alumni and dedicated Catholic leaders to honor.

We will present our Distinguished Alumni Awards to:

Fr. James Anguiano, associate vicar for clergy and past director of the Queen of Angels Center for Priestly Formation;

Bishop Joseph Brennan, who has been named by Pope Francis as the new bishop of Fresno;

Msgr. Gregory Cox, executive director of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles; and

Bishop Marc Trudeau, our past rector and San Pedro Region bishop.

We are honored to present the Evangelli Gaudium award to John and Dorothy Shea whose steadfast belief in and support for Catholic education has benefited so many.

To add to the celebrations, the Gala master of ceremonies will be Msgr. Clement Connolly, pastor emeritus at Holy Family Church and a past Evangelli Gaudium honoree.  Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson, one of our distinguished alumni, will lead us in the opening prayer. And, as Archbishop Jose Gomez noted last year, the evening’s celebrations will culminate with a beautiful fireworks show.

The event will be held in the plaza of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, with a reception beginning at 6 p.m., followed by dinner.  We will send out “save the date” cards soon.  In the meantime, if you would like more details or to be on the event’s mailing list, please email us at gala@stjohnsem.edu or call 805-482-2755, ext. 1104 or 1105.

Our volunteer Gala Committee hopes you will join us and, as a past honoree said, “allow St. John’s Seminary to belong to all of us with great praise and gratitude to the Lord.”
