Fr. Timothy Freyer, St. John’s Alumnus, Appointed Auxiliary Bishop

November 29, 2016

We congratulate Fr. Timothy Freyer, a St. John’s Seminary alumnus, on his elevation to auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Orange.   The Vatican has announced his appointment, and his episcopal ordination will be announced shortly.

As the Diocese has shared, in his new role Fr. Freyer will assist Bishop Kevin Vann in many ways, including by continuing work on the diocese’s new pastoral plan.  He will continue to focus on evangelization, creating experiences and ministries to help bring people closer to Christ.

“I am both humbled and honored,” said Fr. Freyer.  “I am grateful to Pope Francis and to Bishop Van for their trust and confidence in me, and I pray that I may live up to their expectations.”

Fr. Freyer received his Master of Divinity degree from St. John’s in 1989 and was ordained as a priest the same year.
